The Marine Technology Society was incorporated in June 1963 to promote awareness, understanding, advancement, and application of marine technology. MTS membership includes ocean engineers, technologists, policy makers, and educators. Their mission is to facilitate a broader understanding of the relevance of marine technology; to promote and improve marine technology and related educational programs; and to advance the development of the tools and procedures required to explore, study, and further the responsible and sustainable use of the oceans.
The paper ballots were so time consuming. All I had to do with Votenet was click a button and get a report. The Board absolutely loved it. We'll use it again the next time we have a vote.
Challenges
The Marine Technology Society is a small association with a small staff. Sending paper ballots was time consuming, and they had to ask for help from board members. In addition, MTS wanted to ensure the accuracy of their voting process.
Solutions
Votenet''s eBallot allowed the small staff to handle the process alone. "Five minutes after the election was over, we were able to see who won. It was all accurate and certified, so no one was able to dispute anything," said Suzanne Voelker, Operations Administrator for MTS. "With Votenet the most challenging part wasn''t the balloting, it was getting the information from our candidates!"
Impact
Votenet not only made the process easier - MTS actually saved money by switching to eBallot. Voelker said, "We saved money too, $2-3,000 at least. It wasn''t just the cost of staff time; we also saved printing expenses and postage. Plus we had a better response than we did with the paper ballots."
